Barney Stinson's The Bro Code

The Bro Code was born on the hit television show How I Met Your Mother and is constantly referred to by one of the lead characters on that show - womaniser Barney Stinson.

Barney Stinson actually embraces the Bro Code in much the way others may embrace their religion in fact he firmly believes that if all ‘Bros’ embraced the code then Bros around the world could set aside all of their differences and embrace their brotherhood.

Barney’s consistent talking about the Bro Code has led to Bro Code tees being made and worn proudly by Bros all over the world. It has also led to the publishing of The Bro Code by Barney Stinson himself. Now originally the Bro Code was written down by Barnabas Stinson (an ancestor of Barney’s), but for the most part it has enjoyed being handed down orally like so many older traditions.

After canvassing what people thought of the Bro Code it appears to be a resounding hit. If you enjoy hearing Barney’s theories on life and his recounting of the Bro Code on How I Met Your Mother then you’ll be able to hear his alter ego’s (Neil Patrick Harris) voice as you read the book.

The Bro Code book is a very quick read and includes diagrams to illustrate points. Considering the number of ‘articles’ within the code that Barney refers to on How I Met Your Mother I was expecting this to be somewhat of a heavier book. However this is an ideal size for someone who doesn’t like reading, but does need to learn the Bro Code!

It is basically like having a book of one-liners and if you’re married to a Bro expect to be hearing these one liners over and over as they talk with their other Bros!

Now on Amazon there are a number of reviews about The Bro Code and one thing that has struck me is that it must be better in the book format - Clearly, this is one of those examples of what we sometimes lose in the translation from print copy to eBook. Now I haven’t seen the eBook, but really I feel this is more like a coffee table book.

Personally I feel that Barney is the star of the show How I Met Your Mother and he makes me laugh (and yes I’m a woman), somehow his sleaziness is balanced out with the humor. The Bro Code = Barney in a Book.

I don’t believe that you do, The Bro Code should be entertaining or even laugh out loud for a number of people. I know a lot of people that would find this incredibly funny.

It certainly wouldn’t work for someone with a thin skin who is a militant feminist, but for someone who can laugh at guys that are eternal bachelors like Barney or Charlie out of Two and a Half Men then they will love it.

This would make a great gift idea for groomsmen at a wedding (something an Amazon reviewer did), any Bro who has a sense of humor whether it's for their birthday or Christmas and also an awesome gift idea for anyone who is a fan of How I Met Your Mother.
