Buying Silver Jewelry Online
By lou16
Buying silver jewelry online is a great idea for a couple of reasons – cost and availability. Buying anything online seems to bring the costs down because the company doesn’t have to maintain a bricks and mortar store with the associated rent, refurbishing and staffing costs that go with it. An online store will generally always have a lower mark up, which is great for us, the jewelry buying public.
I find that by using a trusted store I can get some great deals. Another benefit is that it also means that there is less chances of me turning up at an event wearing exactly the same piece of jewelry as the host. We didn’t both see the piece in the window of the jeweler at the Mall and buy it for the same event! – trust me, this has happened before now, it’s not quite as bad as wearing the same dress, but still….
I choose Amazon as the online store I use the most. They have a great reputation and so I feel comfortable buying from them. I know there must be many more stores that are good, but Amazon is my ‘go to jeweler!’

Finding Silver Jewelry
When I talked about availability I meant being able to find silver jewelry ‘in real life’ seems to be getting harder and harder. I went into a bricks and mortar jewelry store a few weeks ago and asked if they had any silver amethyst pendants. They didn’t and I was basically told that people don’t buy much in the way of silver anymore – what??
I checked out a few other jewelers in the same mall and sure enough there are lots of gold selections but silver – forget about it! One quick look at Amazon, however, and there is silver galore. I have written a number of hubs on different types of silver jewelry and after my experience you can expect a lot more!
Tips For Buying Jewelry Online
I have two tips for buying jewelry online (aside from using a reputable merchant that is) and they involve reading and using a ruler.
The first piece of jewelry I brought I hadn't bothered to see how big it was.....I looked at the photo and visualised it in my mind. When it arrived it was the wrong size, well actually it wasn't it was exactly as advertised, but in my mind! I now recommend having a ruler or measuring tape on hand so that you know exactly how big something will be before buying!
Reading a description is also very important....I had brought a number of pieces of jewelry before this triped me up. I saw a lovely looking bracelet and in my mind it was in the style of a bangle......I had skipped over the description and relied on the picture. It was in fact a 'stretchy' bracelet which is a type that I hate - it does look very nice though!

Be careful when buying "silver jewellery" as many items are created from other types of silver such as Tibetan silver which actually contains very little silver and Brazilian silver doesn't contain silver at all.
