How to Create a Peace Inspired Bedroom

There comes a stage in every girl’s life where she becomes passionate about things other than the latest hottie on television or in the movies and usually peace is something that she can latch on to.   I imagine my mother was a peace loving hippy and I know that I had the ear rings and attitude to match!   My daughter can’t understand why everyone can’t just agree to get along and one of her favorite accessories at the moment is her peace sign shoulder bag.

If you want to really make your daughter’s day then you could create her very own peace inspired bedroom and you don’t have to go far to find some lovely things to furnish her bedroom with as I have everything right here for you.

As with creating any child’s bedroom, I mean ‘young adult’ there are the all in options or just a little sprinkling option.   I will show you everything from peace sign sheets to accessories and you can decide how far you want your daughter’s peace sign bedroom to go.

Now personally I always end up using basic sheets and adding touches with the duvet covers/comforters and/or blankets and pillows, but some of these sheets are definitely worth making an exception!

In our warm climate my daughter often sleeps with just a sheet over her during the summer so she might really appreciate having some ‘groovy’ sheets, although the word groovy probably wouldn’t pass her lips, she’d probably say ‘sick’ or something similar!

Sometimes it is easier to have very basic comforters/duvet sets and sheets and add the individual touches (as they will vary depending on age and peer groups) as throws or blankets that are easily changed as your child moves onto the next best thing.

Of course the other thing to do is to load the bed up with plush peace sign cushions or pillows because as they get older their bed also becomes almost like a couch during the day so piles of cushions are really ‘in’.

Now that the bed is looking very 'peaceful' it's time to turn your attention to the walls. Posters are a great way of dressing up a room whether they're stuck up by themselves or framed and hung as pieces of art.

There are also other types of wall decor available like the ones opposite which are lovely addition to any room, but especially a peace themed bedroom. I particularly like the recycled tin lettering - peace, recycling and art - what more could a teen want in their room??

Another item that appears on the wall is the light switch and you can also get decorative light switch covers to add that extra bit of pizazz to a room, there are a number of different peace inspired designs available.

Windows are like the eyes of a room so although you could leave them with plain curtains or blinds some peace sign window treatments will really add a lovely touch to your peace inspired bedroom.   You could use just a peace sign window valance with plain blinds or you could add peace sign curtains - the choice is yours.

Beaded door curtains are also making a come back and the peace sign door curtains give a really 'groovy', retro hippy vibe to the room.   Now this would be perfect for one of my nieces, but it's not really my dd's cup of tea so think about who you're decorating this bedroom for before you add in a beaded curtain.

Items such as wastepaper bins and clocks also help to add some added 'peace-ness' to your peace inspired bedroom, and let's face it both of these things are important for a teenage girls bedroom!
