St Patrick’s Day Shots and Shooters
77St Patrick's Day Drinks
St Patrick’s Day Shots range from the simple shot of straight Irish Whiskey to layered shots such as the Irish Flag Shooter (which looks good, but is an acquired taste!). Shots that contain the flavors of Ireland such as Whiskey and Baileys are all the rage as are shots that contain Midori or Green Crème de Menthe as they celebrate the greenness of the day.
Enjoy celebrating St Patrick’s Day with these shots.
Shamrock Shooter
2 oz Midori
½ oz Irish Whiskey
½ oz Baileys
Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to serve. This is a delicious shooter to get the party started and I’m not even a great fan of whiskey!
The Irish Frog
Now this shot is a little harder because you have to layer it –
¾ oz Midori
¾ oz Baileys
Both of these liqueurs have to be chilled beforehand. Pour the Midori into the shot glass and carefully float the Baileys on top.
Layering Shots
Layering shots can be done using the back of a spoon, but the main thing is controlling the flow of the alcohol. Make sure that you have pourers on the bottles so that you have a nice even flow. When using the back of a spoon place the spoon just above the alcohol that you wish to layer the next shot onto and pour slowly from the pourer.
Practice plenty of times before St Patrick’s Day (or any party occasion) and you’ll get the knack which will really impress your friends. Personally I like to use a Dime Spoon or Bar Spoon (same thing different name depending on where you’re from).
The classic layered shot for St Patrick’s Day is a somewhat acquired taste, but boy does it look the part, I’m talking about the Irish Flag Shooter.
Irish Flag Shooter
1 part crème de menthe
1 part Baileys
1 part Grand Marnier
Pour the crème de menthe into a shot glass first, float the Baileys on top and let it settle before floating the Grand Marnier on top.
Sometimes the whole idea of layering shots seems just too hard. This could be because of the sheer volume of people at your party or it could be because you’re also drinking yourself! Whatever the reason there are some great shots that are designed to be shaken instead of layered such as the Irish Cowboy and Irish Frost.
Irish Cowboy
1 part Baileys
1 part Bourbon
Pour both into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to enjoy.
Irish Frost
1 shot Baileys
splash of coconut cream
splash of half and half
Pop all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain and serve in a shot glass.
