Silly Bandz

The coolest thing in the Schoolyard at the moment is Silly Bandz! To adults this fad is simply funny shaped elastic bands, but to the children spearheading this craze Silly Bandz are soooo much more!

Silly Bandz fills in two voids – jewelry and collectibles. Silly Bandz seem to have replaced the former rubber bracelets as the unisex ‘jewelry’ of choice among tweens (and sometimes younger). They are also popular among Silly Bandz are also being used like trading cards as people swap and ‘trade’ their Silly Bandz for other ones……I’m not sure which is the most popular at the moment, but there is definitely trading going on!

I must admit that as a mom I didn’t think I’d have to worry about this craze as I was sure my daughter wouldn’t come home with one……I was wrong! Two days ago my daughter comes home with a castle Silly Bandz on her wrist – the conversation went something like this ‘I didn’t know you liked Silly Bandz’

‘I don’t really, but everyone’s wearing them even the boys!’

I was surprised that she’d picked a castle one from the prize box in class and before I could engage my brain I’d already said something along the lines of it being from the Princess range. Now you should probably know that my daughter is going through her tomboy stage at the moment, but I think she was more surprised that mom not only knew about silly bandz, but recognized the range. I’m sure she thinks I live in Outer Space sometimes!

She admitted that she would’ve preferred a dinosaur one, but this was the only one there. I could understand the appeal of dinosaur ones as one of her current father/daughter activity is putting together wooden dinosaur models……it looks like Jurassic Park on the top of her shelving unit! The next day dd comes home with a dinosaur Silly Bandz, although it was a little hard to recognize it. She wasn’t very happy, but apparently it was the best dinosaur she could get for a castle, needless to say Silly Bandz is on the Christmas list this year.

The great thing about Silly Bandz is that they are a very affordable gift idea, making it perfect for stocking stuffers. I’d go as so far as predicting that Silly Bandz will be the most popular Christmas Stocking Stuffers for 2010 – what do you think?

I didn’t realize until recently that even teenagers enjoy wearing Silly Bandz – it seems like they’re a cheap fashion accessory and some teens wear Silly Bandz running all the way from their wrists to their elbows!

There are so many different types of Silly Bandz that you are sure to find a variety that your child will love from princesses to pets, rock bands to dinosaurs, dragons to sports.   Even Disney is getting in on the Silly Bandz craze...........
